Fishing generates USD 2.43 billion in exports in 2025
Ecuador continues to demonstrate that its economic strength goes far beyond oil. In the first quarter of 2025, non-oil exports reached a solid value of USD 6.205 billion, consolidating growth amid a challenging global economic context. Within this scenario, the aquaculture and fishing sector stands out as an undisputed protagonist, contributing USD 2.43 billion, a remarkable 18% increase compared to the same period last year.
This performance reaffirms the strategic importance of the fishing and aquaculture sector in the national economy, not only as a source of foreign exchange but also as a key provider of employment and development in coastal areas. Products such as shrimp, tuna, and other marine species continue to gain ground in demanding international markets in the Americas, Europe, and Asia, thanks to their quality, sustainability, and growing innovation throughout the production chain.
Furthermore, this growth reflects the diversification of Ecuador’s economy, reducing its historical dependence on oil revenues and strengthening a more balanced and robust trade balance. With policies focused on sustainable aquaculture and the modernization of the fishing industry, Ecuador projects maintaining this positive momentum in the coming quarters, consolidating itself as one of Latin America’s leaders in marine exports.
