Ecuador’s Tuna Sector Focuses on Growth in the U.S. and Canadian Markets

Ecuador is actively expanding its presence in the United States and Canadian markets, aiming to diversify and increase its tuna exports. The country currently exports an average of 250,000 metric tons (MT) of tuna annually, with significant shares going to Europe, the U.S., and Latin America.

This strategic focus on North America reflects the strong demand and consumption of high-quality seafood products in these markets. According to Mónica Maldonado, Executive Secretary of the Ecuadorian Chamber of Tuna Industrialists and Processors (Ceipa), this approach will enable Ecuador to strengthen its positioning and capitalize on emerging consumer trends, boosting the competitiveness of the national tuna industry.

Expanding into these markets offers opportunities to increase revenues, diversify export destinations, and solidify the international reputation of Ecuadorian tuna, known for its quality and sustainability.
